KVC Nebraska is proud to announce Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg as the keynote speaker for its 2017 Resource Family Conference!

Dr. Ginsburg is a pediatrician specializing in adolescent medicine at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He also serves as Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and is the Director of Health Services at Covenant House Pennsylvania, an agency that serves Philadelphia’s homeless and marginalized youth.

In Dr. Ginsburg’s adolescent medicine practice, he treats a wide variety of medical conditions and addresses adolescent behavioral issues. He practices social adolescent medicine which emphasizes prevention and recognizes that social context and stressors affect both physical and emotional health. At Covenant House Pennsylvania, Dr. Ginsburg and clinic staff address a client’s risk by first acknowledging that some of the most worrisome behaviors stem from an individual’s reaction to stress. Staff then guide each young person to build upon existing strengths to address problem behaviors.

Dr. Ginsburg’s work has brought him to advocate for parents’ critical role in raising resilient children and teens. He has appeared on CNN, NPR, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The CBS morning show, FOX and Friends and ABC, NBC, and CBS Nightly News programs.

Building Resilience in Children and Teens by Dr. Kenneth GinsburgDr. Ginsburg lectures widely to parent and professional audiences both nationally and internationally. “Building Resilience in Children and Teens: Giving Kids Roots and Wings,” and “Raising Kids to Thrive: Balancing Love with Expectations and Protection with Trust” are two of his most recent books. Both are published by The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), as well as “Letting Go with Love and Confidence: Raising Responsible, Resilient, Self-Sufficient Teens“.

Dr. Ginsburg acts as the external resilience expert for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. He also partners with The National Congress of American Indians in its efforts to build resilience in our Indigenous youth.


2017 Resource Family Conference

KVC Nebraska’s 2017 Resource Family Conference will take place March 31-April 1 at The Cornhusker, A Marriott Hotel in Lincoln, Neb. This annual event is a one-of-a-kind training opportunity for foster families. These families are caring for children who have experienced abuse, neglect or other family challenges and are temporarily in state custody. Resource families, a term which includes foster and adoptive parents and relatives, will learn about topics such as managing behavior challenges, repairing the effects of stress and trauma, and transition planning into adulthood, while children enjoy fun activities like games, bouncy houses and talent shows. More than 2,000 people participate in the conference each year which takes place simultaneously in three additional locations across the country: Kansas, Kentucky and West Virginia.
