Internships & Practicum

For students, there’s no better learning lab than the real world. That’s why KVC Nebraska is proud to help undergraduate and graduate students complete their social work or mental health treatment internships or practicums and gain real world experience. These students, who learn about and help deliver KVC services like developmental disability support, foster care, in-home family therapy and more, are working in a unique space where government, nonprofit agency providers and higher education intersect. Few other organizations offer students this diverse experience.
KVC’s internship and practicum opportunities are structured to meet your program requirements. Our interns enjoy unparalleled flexibility due to KVC’s in-home model. KVC’s commitment to meeting with families in their homes leads to evening and weekend appointments that work well for students and families alike, and students learn some of KVC’s best practice approaches.
What a KVC Internship/Practicum Offers
- An exclusive opportunity to learn directly from experienced professionals at KVC
- An opportunity to apply many of the techniques learned in the classroom to real situations under the supervision of a KVC professional
- Time to develop skills in social work, case management, client engagement, crisis intervention or individual and group therapy
“Interning with KVC has been such a meaningful experience. I’ve had the chance to grow both personally and professionally in an environment that truly values learning and support. Throughout my time here, I was able to explore the clinical counseling field in a hands-on way, sometimes independently and other times alongside a team of passionate and knowledgeable professionals. What stood out most to me was KVC’s genuine commitment to developing their interns. From day one my supervisor and the entire team encouraged me, challenged me and helped me gain confidence in my abilities. I’m walking away from this experience with a strong foundation and a deeper understanding of this field and I know it will stay with me throughout my career.” – Michaela, former intern, current Outpatient Therapist
“I chose to intern with KVC because of the welcoming environment they seamlessly presented. During my time at KVC, the leadership team and staff members have taken the time to get to know me on a personal level. KVC works to create connection among staff members, which was shown within the first few days on my internship. At KVC, I have grown as an individual and as a professional as they offer opportunities for interns to gain experience and knowledge in the field. The KVC leadership team and staff provide constant support, guidance, and feedback to ensure interns are reaching their full potential.” – Riley, current Intern
