This training will explore how the Probation system works\, how it differs from Child Welfare and how teams can effectively support youth toward successful transitions home. \nYou’ll Learn About:\n\nKey differences between fostering youth on Probation and those involved with Child Welfare\nHow Probation uses assessments to determine risk and need and develop youth goals\nThe Stages of Change\, engagement strategies and skills training that support youth progress\nHow to collaborate with the team to develop effective transition plans that support reunification\n\nAbout the Presenter: Julie Smith\nJulie Smith \nJulie Smith has more than 20 years of experience working with high-risk youth and families across Nebraska. She began her career in school-based prevention programs and has provided family support services and worked with young mothers in residential group home settings. \nPrior to joining Probation in 2013\, Julie worked with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and began a master’s program in Education at UNL. \nSince 2016\, Julie has served as the Out-of-Home Program Specialist with the Administrative Office of Courts and Probation. In this role\, she focuses on implementing best practices for out-of-home placements\, reentry and transition planning. Her work includes overseeing access to services for special populations often overrepresented in congregate care\, including youth who sexually harm and youth with cognitive disabilities.
