SUMMARY:2015 Resource Family Conference
DESCRIPTION:Registration is now closed. If you have any questions\, please contact Maggie Dworak at (402) 498-4723 or mdworak@kvc.org\, or Jennifer Warren at (402) 742-8836 or jwarren@kvc.org. \nKVC’s 2015 Resource Family Conference will take place December 11-12 at four locations across the country: Overland Park\, Kan; Lincoln\, Neb.; Lexington\, Ky.; and Daniels\, W.Va. The event is a one-of-a-kind training opportunity for KVC licensed foster families who are caring for children who have experienced abuse\, neglect or other family challenges\, and are temporarily in state custody. Resource families\, a term which includes foster\, adoptive and biological parents\, will learn about topics such as handling behavior challenges\, repairing the effects of stress and trauma\, and transition planning into adulthood\, while children enjoy fun activities like games\, bouncy houses and talent shows. More than 2\,000 people participate in the conference each year. \n \nVeteran newsman Dominic Carter will be the keynote speaker for the 2015 Resource Family Conference. Carter\, who was in foster care as a child\, is one of the most compelling journalists of his generation\, and has been described as the best political reporter working in New York television today. As a victim of childhood sexual abuse\, Carter released a book on his life titled ‘No Momma’s Boy’\, which chronicles his triumphant struggle to overcome his mother’s mental illness as a chronic paranoid schizophrenic and years of shocking childhood abuse while growing up in the housing projects in the notorious South Bronx\, New York. \nLearn more here: Keynote Speaker for KVC’s Annual Conference Announced \nConference schedule: \nFriday\, December 11: \n\nPasta Dinner\nCarnival for the entire family\n\nSaturday\, December 12 (for foster parents): \n\nBreakfast and lunch provided\nKeynote speakers\nProfessional panel\nContinuing education training\n\nSaturday\, December 12 (for youth): \n\nBreakfast\, lunch and snacks provided\nPlanned activities\n\nBowling\, Lost & Fun Family Fun Center\, movie\, arts & crafts\, children’s museum\, Omaha Street Percussion

SUMMARY:Omaha Gives!
DESCRIPTION:What is it?  \n\nOmaha Gives! is a one-day online fundraising event organized by the Omaha Community Foundation and held on May 25 to raise support for nonprofits in Douglas\, Sarpy\, and Pottawattamie Counties. It is a community-wide event to show off the area’s spirit of giving\, raise awareness about local nonprofits\, and celebrate the collective effort it takes to make this city great.\n\nHow does it work? \nNonprofits win bonus dollars for drumming up the most support. Hourly drawings and prizes only sweeten the give. \n  \n   Schedule your gifts ahead of time or make donations throughout the day. Have more fun – give both ways! \n  \nLast year\, more than 20\,000 people raised $8.8 million for 704 local nonprofits in just one day!

SUMMARY:Foster Parent Training Class - North Platte
DESCRIPTION:Each month\, many children and teens in the North Platte\, Nebraska area enter foster care. Children who enter foster care have been removed from their homes by the courts due to abuse\, neglect or other family challenges. Currently\, there are not enough foster homes to support these children entering out-of-home care\, resulting in these youth being cared for in foster families in other counties. \nWith few local foster homes available\, it makes it difficult for these children and teens to maintain relationships with family and friends\, or remain at their same school. They also lose a sense of comfort when they must be cared for in a new\, unfamiliar place. \nMore foster families are needed in the North Platte community. By becoming a foster parent\, you can make a big difference in the life of a child or teen by providing a safe\, nurturing\, family environment. This gives the youth and his or her birth family an opportunity to resolve conflicts or disruptions and learn healthy skills so the child can safely return home. \nLearn more by attending our free Foster Parent Training Classes (PS-MAPP) starting Saturday\, June 4! Contact Jessica Schuler at (402) 730-4743.
