DESCRIPTION:*This training is STRONGLY SUGGESTED for foster parents caring for youth involved in the juvenile justice system.* \nTraining Description\nProbation 101 is provided by the Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation. It is aimed at building relationships between providers and probation officers by educating attendees on their mission and purpose. The training will discuss the differences between youth on probation and youth placed through DHHS and explain the process Probation uses to assess\, engage\, train\, and reinforce change in the youth they serve. \nThis training will also discuss the relationship between providers and team members and the goal of working towards the greater good for the youth and the community. This skills-based training will qualify for Professional Foster Care Training Requirements and meets criminogenic CEU’s. She is the Probation Liaison to the Nebraska Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services – Division of Developmental Disabilities. \nJulie has more than 20 years experience working with high-risk youth and families in Nebraska. She began her career in school-based prevention efforts with at-risk youth and families\, has provided family support services\, and worked with young mothers in residential group home programs. Julie worked for the Department of Health and Human Services prior to beginning her Probation career in 2013. \nJulie earned a bachelor’s degree in human development from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and began a master’s program in education from UNL before beginning her career with the Department of Health and Human Services.

SUMMARY:Fostering Queer and Trans Youth Basic Care\, Safety and Inclusion (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Jessi Hitchins and Michael Neman \nDr. Jessi Hitchins (she|her) has dedicated her professional career to serving interpersonal violence survivors\, feminist advocacy\, and queer and trans folx\, particular youth and college-aged people. She received her doctorate from The University of Alabama in social and cultural studies of education. She holds graduate certificates in qualitative research and women’s studies. She is a certified victim advocate in three states including Nebraska. She has nearly two decades of practitioner experience in higher education and community outreach through various roles in women\, gender\, sexuality/LGBTQIA2S+\, and victim/survivor advocacy centers\, reproductive justice health work\, multicultural offices\, and housing. She also is an adjunct faculty in Women’s and Gender Studies and Sociology and Anthropology on campus. \nMichael Neman is by trade an environmental chemist and been working in labs for nearly two decades. Using his analytical skills\, he is working toward a Master’s degree in Data Science. Additional trainings you will complete for licensure include: Universal Precautions\, Verbal de-escalation\, Healthy Boundaries and Human Trafficking. \n\n\n\n\nTIPS-MAPP class is held one time per week for 10 weeks. SUMMARY:Physical Health Needs of Children in Foster Care (2 CEU’s)
DESCRIPTION:This training will be offered at the Lincoln office and virtually. \nThis training on the physical health needs of children in foster care is available to KVC foster parents. It is worth 2 CEUs. \nChildren who are abused and neglected may suffer immediate physical injuries such as cuts\, bruises\, or broken bones.  Ongoing issues with children’s health such as asthma\, diabetes\, encopresis\, enuresis\, failure to thrive\, inadequate immunization\, poor dental hygiene or multiple caries\, prenatal exposure to cocaine\, alcohol\, narcotics and shaken baby syndrome will be discussed. \n\nIf you are a KVC foster parent\, please complete the “KVC AFFILIATE REGISTRATION” form below. \n\n\n\n\nKVC AFFILIATE REGISTRATION\n\nIf you have additional questions\, you can contact Kelli Anderson\, Training Specialist\, at kjanderson@kvc.org.
